Here are a few methods for internally resourcing yourself. I have listed just a few quick sentences about each one to make this post easy to read and digest. Enjoy!
- Self-care doesn’t need to take a lot of time. Get a lot for a little. Using techniques like HeartMath, heart-focused breathing, and simple meditation you can maximize your internal resources
- Play games with yourself to increase inner resilience. Example: Gratitude crows: every time you see a crow name something you’re grateful for. Remind yourself to play in the world and with the world.
- Find comfort in what is. Explore your body to find your pain or discomfort. Perhaps you have a sports injury affecting your knee. Perhaps you have internal depression. Go to it, love it, and remember that you are alive to feel what this is.
- Make a playlist of songs that uplift you. And play it. Allow music to manipulate you. Music conveys emotion in so many rich, amazing ways. Consider using meaningful songs from all stages of your life.
- Bring back one of your favorite moments. How old were you? Where was it? Who were you with? How long did it last? What was the weather like? What did you feel? Go back there, be back there, and enjoy your memory!
- Touch the dirt. Touch a tree. Catch a bug. Be outside in nature. Notice what part of your body responds to that stimulus. What about it is delightful?
- Give yourself permission to be. Allow yourself to be you as you are right now, exactly as you are. Suffering and joy are equal parts to the human experience and you are allow to be at either end of the spectrum and all points in between.
